Protect Our NDIS Rally Sydney

On May 9th 2026 a National Day of Action was held to stop massive cuts to the National Disability Scheme in tueday's federal budget. Many from the disability community and supporters gathered in Sydney's CBD outside the Town Hall and across the country to rally against these cuts. Placards and  speakers called for the federal government to tax gas and spend less on the military instead of cutting what disability rights supporters see as a lifeline for disabled people.

Speakers at the Protect our NDIS rally calling for cuts to military spending to fund the NDIS were occasionally drowned out by a pro-Ukraine demonstration simultaneously held around the corner calling for "arms to Ukraine" and "stop fascist Russia". The small but vocal Ukraine rally with a superior sound system managed to pierce the speeches of disabled advocates with incongruous calls for military aid. In contrast the disabled community showed their support for funding disabled lives in Australia instead of wars.
