To publicise the Raise The Rate Campaign, Addison Road Community Centre in Marrickville, Sydney has renamed one of its streets to 'Raise The Rate' Drive as part of national Anti-Poverty Week. The Raise the Rate Campaign calls for raising welfare payments for jobseekers on New Start and Youth Allowance who live well below the poverty line.
Members of community groups and jobseekers held a rally to honour the unveiling of the street sign on October 22nd 2019. Speakers included Pas Forgione from the Australian Council of Social Services and Ricci Bartels a welfare recipient who challenged conservative politicians on national ABC television program 'Q and A'.
