'Raise The Rate' Drive unveiled at Addison Road Community Centre


To publicise the Raise The Rate Campaign, Addison Road Community Centre in Marrickville, Sydney has renamed one of its streets to 'Raise The Rate' Drive as part of national Anti-Poverty Week. The Raise the Rate Campaign calls for raising welfare payments for jobseekers on New Start and Youth Allowance who live well below the poverty line. 


Members of community groups and jobseekers held a rally to honour the unveiling of the street sign on October 22nd 2019. Speakers included Pas Forgione from the Australian Council of Social Services and Ricci Bartels a welfare recipient who challenged conservative politicians on national ABC television program 'Q and A'.

Global Strike for Climate in the Domain, Sydney



On September 20, three days before the UN Emergency Climate Summit, school students organise protests around the world for the biggest ever global #ClimateStrike against climate change. In the Domain, Sydney it was estimated that 80,000 people attended the rally. Performance artists dressed in red robes from Extinction Rebellion were also in attendance.

WE ARE ONE FOR AMAZON FOREST



Demonstrators on Sunday 25th of August of 2019 from 11am to 3pm held a silent protest in Martin Place, Sydney against many deliberately lit Amazon Forest fires. The protest was supporting the Amazon Rainforest from exploitative farming practices with participants holding green and red banners to represent solidarity with the rainforest and its Indigenous peoples. Protestors rallied around the world against the Brazilian government accused of disastrous environmental practices in the Amazon.

Water for the Rivers Not Big Business protest outside NSW Parliament



Water for the Rivers protestors outside NSW Parliament called on the NSW government to stop irrigation or mining pumping in the Murray Darling Basin during low-to-medium flows, ban floodplain harvesting and assist farmers to grow crops better suited to arid climates.

A protest against the $1.2 billion proposed for Liverpool Plains was held today outside the Consulate General of the People's Republic of China in Sydney. The mine threatens sacred sites of the Gomeroi people surrounding water sources and agricultural lands.
